New Portal a 360 exclusive


An expanded version of Eurogamer's Game of the 2007, Portal, is be released this Autumn, subtitled 'Still Alive'.

Amusingly unveiled at Microsoft's E3 2008 press briefing by the one and only GLADoS, the beefed up version will be coming exclusively to the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade before the end of this year.

Emerging to cheers from the press, GLADoS utttered: "Due to previous tests being solvable, we are currently manufacturing new test chambers for only the most qualified subjects."

Published by Valve and Microsoft, the official press release states that Portal: Still Alive "features the full award-winning Portal single-player game from Valve plus a new challenge mode." Teasingly vague, but it'll do. If it's cheap.

At the time of publication it wasn't made clear whether Portal: Still Alive is simply a console exclusive or whether a similarly expanded PC edition will also be coming out via Steam at the same time. Expect clarification shortly.

Portal: Still Alive Hits Xbox Live Arcade Next Wed; Promises Cake and Companionship

Microsoft has announced that Valve's enhanced re-release of its wit-driven puzzle-shooter Portal will arrive in the Xbox 360's online Xbox Live Marketplace next Wednesday, October 22. However, the game's price point is still unknown.

Titled Portal: Still Alive, the downloadable Xbox Live Arcade version packs the beloved original along with 14 new challenge maps and 6 advanced maps, but contains no additional plot details or commentary from the ever-present GLaDOS.

The "new" levels are based off those found in Hen Mazolski's free PC release of Portal: The Flash Version MapPack, sporting some subtle design tweaks but no major enhancements, Valve marketing VP Doug Lombardi revealed earlier this year.

"Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that your cake is indeed waiting for you and that the Weighted Companion Cube misses you in your absence," reads the release.

Valve previously released an Xbox 360 version of Portal as part of last year's mega-bundle The Orange Box, which is also available on PC and PlayStation 3.
